The Lake District: Small Group Tour From London (5-days)

Join this 5-day adventure through the Lake District and see the highlights of this stunning region. Also visit York, Stratford-upon-Avon, the Yorkshire Dales, Cambridge and more.
DAY ONE:

The adventure begins by departing London and traveling to our first stop, the university city of Cambridge. With alumni including Stephen Hawking and Isaac Newton, we can visit some of the famous colleges or perhaps partake in the Cambridge tradition of punting; a boat ride along the river. After lunch, continue north to the historic city of Lincoln. Here we can visit the imposing Cathedral; once the world’s tallest building, or explore the historic castle which is home to an original copy of the Magna Carta, written in 1215. Next we'll travel to York, where we spend the night.

DAY TWO:

This morning, we'll depart York and enter the beautiful green valleys of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, meandering along country lanes towards the stunning Asygarth Falls, which featured in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. We'll visit a second TV location shortly after, when we visit Askrigg aka 'Darrowby' from All Creatures Great & Small. After lunch we'll travel into the Lake District, where we'll visit Hill Top; former home of Beatrix Potter. She was inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Lake District and we can step into her old house. Then we'll make the short journey across Lake Windermere to Bowness, where we'll spend two-nights.

DAY THREE:

Today, our journey takes us around the highlights of the Lake District. We'll start by heading north, absorbing the mountain scenery in the Lake District as you follow the Honister Pass; one of Britain’s most dramatic roads. We'll have lunch in the quaint market town of Keswick and visit the ancient monument of Castlerigg stone circle; thought to be over 4,000-years-old. We'll also travel around Ullswater Lake, this beautiful location was inspiration for William Wordsworth. Then, it’s time to return to Lake Windermere, with time to explore and perhaps take a boat trip.

DAY FOUR:

This morning we travel back to York, arriving by lunchtime and then having the afternoon to explore this historic city. There’s lots to do including; visit York Minister, walk along the city walls, exploring the world-renowned National Railway museum, discovering the Roman & Viking history of the city, wander through 'The Shambles' -
a historic street in the heart of the city. You may wish to join one of York's famous Ghost Tours. Tonight, we stay in York once again.

DAY FIVE:

The final day of our voyage sees us turn south and we'll first stop in at Hardwick Hall - one of England's great Elizabethan houses, built in the 1590's. Described as one of 'Britain's best buildings' we'll have plenty of time to explore the house and grounds.
Then we continue south to Stratford-upon-Avon; the home of William Shakespeare. Here, discover Shakespeare’s story and visit many places with a connection to him, including his birthplace. After this it will be time to travel back to London, where our adventure concludes by approximately 18:00.
