It was a monastery church built in the Middle Ages, close to the sea and on a hilly land. Trebizond is considered the best preserved memory of the Greek Empire that has survived to the present day. It has an extraordinary architecture where Byzantine provincial style, Georgian onion dome and Seljuk stonemasonry are used in harmony.
