2-Day Private Sahara Desert and Star Wars Tour

Discover the Sahara Desert and the Star Wars scenery on a 2-day private tour. Visit the islamic monuments in Kairouan, explore the medina of Tozeur, and venture into Matmata, a troglodyte village.
Day 1 : El Kairouan, Tozeur and Ong Djemel

After your breakfast we will pick you from your hotel ( from Hammamet/Sousse/Monastir/Sfax depending on your preferences ) around 7 am and from there we will set to Kairouan. A holy city in Islam where you will discover one of the largest and oldest mosques in North Africa alongside many other mausoleums. Then, we will head for Tozeur. Cross the Chott El Djerid, lake of antiquity and sea of chimeras ,where, according to the legend, whole armies disappeared forever. Explore the unique architectural gem that is the medina of Tozeur. Around midday, enjoy a local lunch. After that, fasten your seat belts as we leave civilization behind and go on an adventure in the dunes of Ong Djemel through the old Ralley track to discover the scenery of Star Wars and the village of Mos Espa. At the end of the day we will check in in your hotel in Tozeur where we will spend the night.

Day 2 : Douz, Tamezret and Matmata

After having your breakfast in the hotel, we will head for Douz. Also known as the gate of the Sahara, Douz is home to one of the largest oases in Tunisia. From there, the desert sands start a stone’s throw. Our next stop will be Matmata, but before that we will pass through the berber village of Tamazret where we will enjoy a coffee break and have some free time to stroll around the village. Once in Matmata, an intriguing troglodyte village, we will visit a homestay where we will be welcomed by a good rosemary tea, bread prepared by your host, accompanied by olive oil and honey. Still in Matmata, Sidi Idriss is a troglodyte hotel built according to the local underground architecture that was chosen by George Lucas to shoot some of Star Wars scenes. Before ending the day, we will pass by a magnificient Roman Amphitheatre in El Jem. Well preserved and impressive being the third largest amphitheatre in the world, it is well worth the stop. Finally we will be going back to your initial point of departure.
