Knuckles Mountain Range is located in the districts of Matale and Kandy in central Sri Lanka. Its name comes from a series of recumbent folds and peaks on the west side. Certain locations in Kandy District provide a view that resembles a clenched fist. Cloud layers often cover the higher montane areas. As part of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, Knuckles Conservation Forest was added to the UNESCO natural world heritage list in 2010. Among the 34 peaks of the Knuckles mountain range, there are those that are between 1900 meters and 900 meters tall. Knuckles was the name given by the British to a range of five high mountains shaped like a clenched fist.
