Unfortunately, due to recent wildfires in Madeira, the PR1 trail is currently closed for safety reasons. However, we are pleased to offer an alternative (IF PR1 remains closed, but it can partially reopen in the end of September), equally beautiful hike in safe zone:
Sunrise at Pico do Areeiro + Vereda do Larano hike
Start your day with a breathtaking sunrise at Pico do Areeiro, where you'll witness the first light of day appearing over the rugged peaks. After sunrise, we'll head to the Vereda do Larano trail!
This hike starts with the Levada do Caniçal, leading you through local rural buildings with gardens and offering stunning views over Machico. The trail then connects to Boca do Risco, where you'll begin an epic coastal hike along the cliffs, providing panoramic views of the ocean and the North Coast. The adventure concludes in the picturesque village of Porto da Cruz, known for its beautiful landscapes and charming ambiance. This route offers a perfect blend of mountain, levada, and coastal hiking, ensuring a memorable experience while PR1 remains closed.

1. WHATSAPP - our ticket, Trail Timing Guide, exact hour and pickup locations will be sent max 1 day in advance.
2. ARRIVE EARLY - be at the bus stop/pick up point 10 minutes before our orange bus is scheduled to leave.
3. SELF-GUIDED - hike without a guide; check our map & LOCATIONS' LINKS (PINS), Trail Timing Guide and IG highlighted stories.
4. DELAYED PASSENGERS - if you don’t show up until the time of planned departure, you will be classified as a "no-show" and the bus will leave you behind.
We will confirm a pickup time via WhatsApp/sms as it varies per bus stop! Please wait at the bus stop 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time. Look for the orange bus or white Land Rover.
