TOUR SUMMARY
Your tour kicks off at the São Sebastião Church, perfect if you're arriving by car, or at the Municipal Market if you're already in Lagos—just a quick 150-meter stroll apart. The walk takes you through the heart of Lagos' historic center, where you’ll wander through charming pedestrian streets, passing by Gil Eanes Square with its iconic Don Sebastião statue by João Cutileiro. As you explore the picturesque alleys, you'll discover delightful local shops, cafés, and restaurants.
Your journey then leads you to the open space of Praça Infante Dom Henrique, where you can admire the Infante statue, visit the Slave Route Museum Centre, and explore historical gems like the Royal Warehouse, Santa Maria Church, Alcácer-Quibir Triptych, and Santo António Church.
From there, continue your tour through the Governors' Castle and exit the old town via Saint Gonçalo's Arch. Head towards the sea to visit Praia da Batata and the Fort of Ponta da Bandeira's Museological Nucleus. Finally, enjoy a scenic 600-meter walk along the Avenida dos Descobrimentos seafront promenade, bringing you back to where your walking tour began.

This tour is considered easy. Please note it involves a 4 hour walk, with no uphill sections.
There are two starting points for the tour: if you're arriving in Lagos by car, begin near the Church of São Sebastião and follow the brown route on the map from the parking area. If you are already in town, the walk starts close to the Municipal Market.
Alternatively, since it’s a circular route, you can kick off your journey from any marked point of interest along the way, without missing any part of the experience.
