On this trip to Manu National Park you will be able to explore the biodiversity of one of the largest national parks in South America for 5 days. A truly immersive experience!
Day 1
We will leave the city of Cusco behind and on the way we will travel through valleys located between the Andes Mountains and picturesque towns between Cusco and the Manu National Park. Let's go! On the way we will stop to visit the pre-Incan tombs of the Lupaca culture, and then we will stop in Paucartambo, a colonial city where we will visit its museum.
Are you hungry yet? We will stop for lunch in the middle of the cloud forest, an area full of native fauna, such as the Andean bear and the cock-of-the-rock. Did you know that this is the national bird of Peru? We will learn about its courtship ritual! We will also see different species of plants such as orchids, bromeliads and ferns.
Finally, between 5 and 6 pm we will arrive at the lodge where we will spend the night. See you tomorrow!
Day 2
On the second day, we will have a very early breakfast before going for a walk to observe the forest fauna. Keep your eyes peeled because we might see monkeys and different types of birds! Next, we will visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center. You will learn many interesting facts! The trip will then continue to Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River. There, we will begin our 1-hour kayaking activity to try to spot some birds such as herons, vultures and cormorants.
In the mid-morning we will arrive at the lodge, where you will have free time to take a dip in the river and have lunch. In the afternoon we will visit a swamp where toucans, woodpeckers and parrots live. Then, before going to sleep, we will go in search of alligators. You will see how their eyes light up at night!
Day 3
The next day, we will wake up early and board a speedboat that will take us to a parrot clay lick, a clay wall located on the river bank where different species of parrots gather.
After breakfast and visiting the parrot clay lick, we will take a walk through the forest.
Afterwards, we will return to the lodge for lunch and rest, and if you feel like it, take a dip in the river. You will also have the option of zip-lining. In the afternoon, we will visit the Machuwasi lagoon. Once the sun has set, we will take a night walk. We will finish the third day with a delicious dinner at the lodge.
Day 4
On the fourth day we will wake up early to have breakfast, then take a walk through the forest where they will explain the biodiversity of the Manu National Park. Then we will return to the lodge to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon we will travel downriver for about 2 hours until we reach a hot springs area. To close the day, we will take a night tour in search of snakes, frogs, insects and spiders. After this intense day, we will return to the lodge for dinner and a little rest.
Day 5
On the fifth day, we will have an early breakfast at the lodge and pick up our luggage to begin the return trip to Puerto Atalaya. There, we will board the bus that will take us to Cusco, where we are expected to arrive between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
