Ascending Nevado Mateo has become a highly popular challenge among mountain climbers in Peru, as well as beginners in mountaineering.
We will pick you up at 3:00 am from your hotel in our vehicle and head northeast from Huaraz for approximately 2 and a half hours. We'll pass through Carhuaz, Shilla, and Huascarán National Park, reaching Punta Olímpica where we will park.
At 6:00 am, we'll start our hike along the moraine for about 1 hour until we reach the base of the glacier. There, we'll put on crampons and the guide will assist with roping up for the ascent to the summit, which takes around 1 hour. From the top, you can admire the views of the Contrahiervas snow-capped peaks and the Cancará lagoons, both small and large.
After enjoying the summit, we will descend along the same route back to the vehicle, and then return to Huaraz.
We anticipate arriving back in Huaraz around 4:00 pm.
