Puerto Maldonado: 4-Day Amazon Rainforest Adventure

Discover the Amazon Rainforest on a 4-day tour from Puerto Maldonado. Explore the Tambopata National Reserve, Sandoval Lake, and the Madre de Dios River.
Day 1: Welcome to Tambopata
Travelers will be picked up at the airport or at the bus station and taken to the lodge. Drive 25 minutes through the city of Puerto Maldonado. On the way, pass through a small community, where you can see many parrots, macaws, parrots after.

After a short break, have a 1-hour introductory walk in the rainforest, guided by an expert local guide who will take you through the trails to see a variety of trees that can be more than five hundred years old. At the same time, observe some species of wild animals such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc.

Day 2: Sandoval Lake (Tambopata National Reserve)
Take a long boat trip of approximately 1:20 minutes to the entrance of Sandoval Lake. After the park ranger control, walk 3 kilometers (2 miles approx.) to Sandoval Lake (piranha habitat) one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve.

After the pleasant walk, get a rowboat where you will have your navigation on the lake to appreciate many different bird and monkey species (Hoatzin cormorant, Jacanas, puma, heron, eagles, howler monkey, squirrel monkey, black capuchin, marmosets, and sloths).

Maybe you will meet the family of giant river otters (almost 2 meters long) that are in danger of extinction and the largest recorded alligator of more than 4 meters long.

When night falls, carry the lanterns to start the tour in the forest, looking for animals, insects, and birds. Find nocturnal monkeys, frogs, large tarantulas, rodents, spiders, owls, owls, fireflies, snakes, or vipers.

Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick and Sunrise View
Prepare everything to be able to appreciate a festival (show) of different types of parrots that live in this Amazon region. Embark and leave by land or river approximately 1 hour from the lodge.

Appreciate the sunrise and be able to hear the noise of the insects and the songs of the Amazon birds. For bird lovers, it is a great festival since they can only be seen in the Amazon.

Upon arrival, observe a large number of parrots gathered like every morning on the clay wall, ready to continue with their diet. These minerals that the parrots eat contain useful substances for their diet and detoxification.

After lunch, have a short break, then head to a 30-meter tower to equip yourself with your safety equipment to start your extreme adventure activities.

Do the Zip Line or zip line, one of the most requested activities due to the high adrenaline that can be experienced when making the round trip.

Day 4: Monkey´s House
Navigate 30 minutes along the Tambopata River to reach the monkey house where you will observe 4 types of monkeys: squirrel monkey, howler monkey, spider monkey. Touch them and take photos with them, also give them food and play with them.

Within this trip along the Madre de Dios River, find a ceticos forest where 3-toed sloths live and you can find between 2 to 5 wild sloths.

Enjoy a good continental breakfast before returning to the city and ending the tour.
