描述
Do you want to discover the secrets hidden in Cumbemayo? Delve into its mysterious stone forest with this excursion from Cajamarca.
Itinerary
The tour will begin with a pick-up at the agreed meeting point at 9:30 am. From here we will head to Cumbemayo, a site that houses a forest of large stone monoliths known as frailones. Did you know that archaeologists date the construction of this mysterious place around 1000 BC? That is, it would be more than 3,000 years old! We will visit the Cumbemayo aqueduct, the most important hydraulic engineering work of the pre-Columbian era. The most curious thing about this viaduct is that today water still flows along its 9 kilometers. We will tell you about its function, which is still a mystery. The Cajamarca region was sufficiently supplied with water, so in principle an aqueduct would not be necessary. So, what was it used for? Historians believe that the answer lies in the sanctuary, a huge rock shaped like a human head where human sacrifices were made. In addition, next to the sanctuary we will see some caves that hide engravings in the rock whose meaning is also an enigma. Finally, on the way back to your hotel, we will stop at the Bellavista viewpoint, a place that will offer us fantastic views of the Cajamarca valley. You will love it! We will arrive at 1:00 p.m.
