描述

Upper Mustang is a remote and culturally rich region in the Himalayas of Nepal, known for its stark landscapes, ancient Tibetan-influenced culture, and restricted access, requiring a special permit for entry.
Upper Mustang is a region located in the north-central part of Nepal, nestled in the rain shadow of the Himalayas. Often referred to as the "Last Forbidden Kingdom," Upper Mustang has a unique and distinct cultural and geographical identity. It was once a part of the ancient Kingdom of Lo and has retained much of its traditional Tibetan culture and architecture.

The region opened to foreigners in 1992, but access is still restricted, requiring a special permit. The landscape is characterized by barren, rocky terrain, deep gorges, and caves, contrasting with the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. The ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, the capital of Upper Mustang, is a focal point with its mud-brick houses, monasteries, and a royal palace.

Visitors to Upper Mustang are drawn to its preserved cultural heritage, including ancient monasteries like Thubchen and Jampa, intricate cave paintings, and the unique lifestyle of the local people. The area's isolation has helped maintain its authenticity and allure for those seeking a glimpse into a bygone era in the heart of the Himalayas.
