Marrakesh: Berber Villages, Atlas & Green Valleys 4-Day Trek

Spend 4 days exploring the high peaks of the Atlas Mountains on a guided trekking tour from Marrakesh with all meals and accommodation included. Hike amidst cool vegetation of juniper and pine trees.
Embark on a 4-day trek from Marrakech, hiking through Imi Oughlad's trailhead, acclimatizing at Tiz n'tachete, and descending to Tiziane. Then, explore Tizi n'taghrhourte and D'knt. Hike to Tizi Oussem and Tizi n'tagdalte. Finally, visit Azib Tamsoult, cross Tizi 'n Mzik pass, and end in Imlil.

Day 1: Marrakech, Imi Oughlad, Tizi n'tachte, Tiziane :

Early morning departure from Marrakech for a pleasant drive south winding your way up through the Moulay Brahim Gorge and upper valleys to arrive at the foothills of the western High Atlas Mountains and the trailhead of Imi Oughlad (1450m). Alight from the vehicle and meet up with a Berber muleteer.

Set off up in a north-westerly direction for a 2-hour acclimatization hike up switchback mule tracks, passing by cornfields, woods pine, and juniper to the Tiz n'tachete (2000m). Stop to look down on the Imlil and Ait Oussaden valleys before carrying on to Imi n'ifri and a field picnic.

Then, embark on a slow hike for about 2.5 hours south-west down along a dirt track to Assif n' ait Oussaden and the red clay terraced village of Tiziane (1750 m) for your accommodation in a bivouac (encampment) or gite (rental home).

Day 2: Tizziane, Tizi n'taghrhourte, D'knt:

After breakfast, set off on a hike up along the Assif n'ait Oussaden Valley, passing through walnut groves, up to Tizi n'taghrhourte (1995m), and through to an almost flat stretch to arrive at Assaka spring.

Stop for a field picnic and continue with some relatively easy walking along the edges of the forest until you reach the Berber village of D'knt (1870m) or Agouns n Assoul where you will have our dinner and spend the night in a bivouac or gite.

Day 3: D'knt, Tizi n'tagdalte, Tizi Oussem:

Set off on a 3-hour morning hike up through groves of walnut trees and fields of corn and barley to greet sheep, goatherders, women, and children carrying loads of dried herbs. Traverse the Tizi n'tagdalte to descend amongst juniper trees to a small spring, where you will stop for a picnic.

Once refreshed, walk down winding tracks of upper slopes for some 3 hours to come to a small river at the beginning of the valley of Assif n'ait Oussaden. From here, enter the village of Tizi Oussem (1850m) and up to the summer village of Tamsoult and rest up in a camp or gite.

Day 4: Azib Tamsoult, Tizi 'n Mzik, Imlil:

Trek to a waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte and return to cross the Tizi 'n Mzik pass (2,500m). Join the main Toubkal valley at Imlil (1,900m) and have lunch before the drive to Marrakech.
