El Meco is one of the archaeological zones of Cancun, and it is the only one that is located in the mainland of the municipality of Isla Mujeres, just five kilometers north of Cancun. There you will be able to get a perspective on the only seaport in the early classical period.
In these vestiges of the Mayan culture of Cancun, you can see 14 structures of residential and administrative use built in the east-coast style. The most notable building is El Castillo in the central square, in front of a shrine. It is thought to have served as the main temple of the settlement.
