To address these needs, we will visit three major landmarks where you can see and (sometimes) touch monuments and exhibits closely related to this tour’s theme: history overview from the nation’s inception to the modern times. As we visit each landmark, your guide will relate the history chronologically from the nation’s inception, ancient times, ruling by samurai, through to the modern times.
Specifically, we will visit three landmarks:
1) Atsuta Jingu (Atsuta Shrine)
Few landmarks in Japan are better suited to narrate Japan’s inception than this 1900-year-old shrine. A nation’s origin is shrouded in myths most of the time. So is Japan’s inception. While the main focus at this landmark is the origin of the nation, the guide will discuss overall flow of the history as we look at monuments here related to major historical figures.

2) Nagoya Castle
During the chaos of warring states in the 16th century, three feudal lords emerged victorious one after another. Interestingly, all three of them were from Nagoya or its vicinity. The last one became the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate which ruled Japan for almost three centuries until late 19th century. Nagoya Castle symbolizes the consummation of power gripping by the Tokugawa clan. The guide will relate the history focusing on the period of warring states and transition to unification in early 17th century.
3) Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology
