Join an unforgettable journey where we start by enjoying the amazing waterfall Goðafoss with its beauty and great history. Continue to the wonderful lake Mývatn with its rough volcanic environment, rich bird life, and flora. Stop at Dimmuborgir, Grjótagjá, and Hverir.
Drive past Skútustaðagígar a cluster of very unique volcanic land formations (pseudo crater) that formed during an eruption in the area. Move on to Dimmuborgir (Dark castle) an unusually dark and rough lava field that contains many strange formations and lava caves such as Gatklettur the “Holly cliff”.
Explore the small lava cave Grjótagjá, with a geothermal spring inside, which was used as a bathing location for a long time. Explore Hverir, which has countless boiling mud springs and steam vents in widely different colors.
Leave Mývatn and continue to the great and powerful waterfall Dettifoss, which is located in the Vatnajökull National Park, and it’s reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe. Admire Dettifoss, over 100 meter (350 feet) wide which drops nearly 45 meters (150 feet) down into the gorge Jökulsárgljúfur.
Take a better look at Jökulsárgljúfur which is the largest gorge in all of Iceland with a span of up to 1000 meters (1600 feet) and a depth of nearly 120 meter (400 feet) before heading back to Akureyri.
