Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the Galicia region, in northwestern Spain. The city is known as the culmination of the Pilgrimage Route of the Paths of Santiago, and the alleged burial place of the biblical apostle St. James. His remains are supposedly inside the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, consecrated in 1211, whose stone facades are carved open to large squares inside the medieval walls of the ancient city.
