Civil War Tour of Oviedo

Join us through Uvieo between July 1936 until the fall of the Northern Front in 1937; the military conspiracy, the first combats, the marks of the bombings and the consequences of the repression.
Denis Soria, historian and official tourist guide, will accompany us through the streets of the Asturian capital on a journey through our recent history.

We will begin our itinerary by discovering the details of the conspiracy hatched by Colonel Aranda against the Republic and visiting the spaces of the first combats: the assault on the headquarters of the civil government or the Santa Clara barracks.

Next, we will approach the situation of the city during the evolution of the Northern Front and the role of figures such as Lieutenant Colonel Teijeiro in breaking the siege, but we will also glimpse the marks of the fighting, including unexploded shells still embedded! on the facades, witnesses of the almost total destruction of the city after 15 months of war, where barely thirty buildings remained intact.

Our tour will end in front of the Cathedral tower, mutilated by cannon fire, where we will take the opportunity to talk about the victims of the Republican bombings and Franco's repression, which claimed the lives of illustrious figures, such as that of the rector Leopoldo Alas.
