Explore the building that was the residence of the Christian monarchs and subsequently the site of the Courts of the Holy Offices, a civil prison, and finally a military prison. It stands atop the remains of the former caliph's palace.
The Fortress is situated in the midst of magnificent gardens, which you’ll also visit on this 90-minute tour. See the Avenue of the Monarchs, featuring statues of all the monarchs who had connections to the palace-fortress.
Declared a Historical Monument in 1931, the Fortress is also part of the area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994.
Since 1986, the gardens have been protected by town planning laws.
