Hamburg: Self-guided City Tour with U3 Public Train

Explore Hamburg on a unique city tour with the U3, Hamburg's oldest subway. Discover famous sights and unknown places while getting to know the city from a uncommon perspective.
The U3 is a subway, but the trains run mainly above ground over viaducts, giving you a whole wonderful view of the city.

Start the self-guided tour at Landungsbrücken (Landing stage for ships), where you can admire the impressive harbour scenery. From there, take the U3 to Baumwall station, where you can take a look at Hamburg's only vineyard.

The journey takes you past famous landmarks such as the Michel, the Elphi (World famous Elbphilharmonie) and the Landungsbrücken, but also through districts outside the city centre. You will learn interesting facts about Hamburg's history and can get off the train in between to marvel at small details or Hamburg sights and solve exciting tasks.

Many small and large wonders, such as a functioning photo booth from the time when people didn't take selfies all the time, a one-way street that regularly changes direction or Trude, the tunnel boring machine, are on your way.

The journey time on the U3 is 40 minutes, but you should allow at least 3 hours to explore Hamburg in more detail. However, you can also interrupt the tour for a longer visit to the Miniaturwunderland, City Hall, Michel or the Elphi and continue again at a later time of your choice.

The tour ends in St. Pauli, probably Hamburg's most famous district, where you can end the day with a walk along the Reeperbahn.
