You will know the violence, the sacrifice, the casualties and the ultimate triumph that lay at the day’s close, the start of a long, long road ahead of these soldiers of the Normandy beaches. Nothing about the victory was guaranteed. It might have failed tragically leaving the world victim to Fascist oppression. It was the successes of Omaha Beach that ultimately turned the tide in favor of freedom.
