Visiting the magnificent UNESCO heritage listed site of Angkor Wat is a once in a lifetime must do.
Step back to the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries, and learn about the Khmer Empire and each of the sites that you visit during the day.
1. Pick-up from accommodation and purchase the Angkor Pass on the way to Angkor Wat if not already purchased online. Sunrise if starting at or prior to 5.30am
2. If sunrise option - arrive at Angkor Wat prior to sunrise and secure a prime position vantage point to experience sunrise. Afterwards, spend the cooler morning hours exploring the ancient temple galleries at your leisure.
3. Enter Angkor Thom city through the famous Southern gate. Stop here for a great photo opportunity and learn a little about the city from Lucky.
4. Spend time at Bayon Temple, recognizable by its numerous large faces. Again, an impressive photo location.
5. Next comes the Terrace of the Elephants, stretching over 300 metres is named for the impressive sculptures of elephants.
6. Terrace of the Leper King is immediately to the north of the Elephant Terrace and is 25 metres long. Stand atop the platform here, where there is a replica of the Leper King Statue (the original being in Phnom Penh).
7. The Phimeanakas or Pyramid temple at the Royal Palace is nearby. It is a Hindu temple built at the end of the 10th century.
8. Ta Phrom Temple, also known as the Tomb Raider Temple, or Jungle Temple, is an essential stop. The temple was made famous in the Tomb Raider movie, and it is around this area of the Archeological Park that trees infiltrate the temples and you can take your own unique photos of those famous landmarks within the park.
9. Banteay Kdei Temple and Sras Ancient Pool round the tour off in the early afternoon.
Return back to your accommodation in the early to mid afternoon, taking a break from the heat of the day.
