This area is home to the Daghlis, an Azerbaijani Persian group. Known for their stunning, colorful slopes, the Candy Cane Mountains are named for their striking purple and pastel hues.
Beshbarmag Mountain
About 100 kilometers from Baku, we encounter Beshbarmag, a sacred mountain whose name means "Five Fingers." This region, historically inhabited by the Azerbaijanis-Daghli, holds cultural significance in Azerbaijani folklore, linked to the Quranic figure Khadir. The mountain, with its ancient mosque and shops, has been a pilgrimage site since the days of the caravan routes. Visitors stop here to rest, enjoy the stunning views, and hear stories of the region’s rich history.
Quba city, Krasnaya Sloboda
An hour’s drive along the North Caucasus foothills brings us to Guba, the capital of the Guba district. Quba is home to the Krasnaya Sloboda settlement, where mountain Jews (Mizrahi Jews) have lived for centuries. The tour explores this unique village, its architecture, and its historic synagogue, offering a deep dive into the cultural significance of the region.
