Sofia: The Fortress of Tsari Mali Grad - 4 mountains & SPA

This is a great mixture between history, culture and nature. The stunning location of Belchin village and the hot springs, hidden between four mountains attract visitors since thousands of years.
We start our picturesque journey from Sofia towards the village of Belchin. It is a lovely place, located between four mountains - Vitosha, Plana, Verila and Rila. Wherever you look - you admire breathtaking panoramas.
The highlight of the day is a visit of the antic fortress - Tsari Mali Grad. After 30 min. walk through the forest we will reach the fortress on the top of the St. Spas hill - absolutely stunning location in all directions. For those who want to skip the walk - there is a funicular taking you directly to the top of the hill. It is a walk back into time, where we will find out more about the turbulent Bulgarian history and the way of living of the local people. An open museum with interesting artefacts from different ages - the Roman, the Byzantine and the Ottoman empires left their mark here. After visiting the fortress our day continues with a short and easy walk (approx. 30 mins) towards St. Peter Summit - a breathtaking viewpoint towards the magnificent Rila mountain. We will pass by a cozy mountain hut where we could stop to relax and to taste the local food.
Later we will visit the hot springs - another highlight of the area. What a perfect end of an epic day.
