描述
Discover the natural beauty of the Australian bush, native animals, rock formations, beaches and waterfalls of the Royal National Park on a hike to Eagle Rock.
The day starts with pickup from your accommodation and we then head to the Royal National Park.
First stop is wonderful Wattamolla, which is an indigenous word for place near falling water.
This is a unique place!
A waterfall drops over a large sandstone cliff into a freshwater pool. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall forms into a stream that gently meanders to the beach.
The beach is protected from ocean swell so it is usually a pleasant place to swim in the warmer months.
After a short stop at the beach we walk to Providential Point, where the ocean enters Wattamolla Bay and enjoy cliff views in both directions.
We then commence our hike south to Eagle Rock. The hike takes around 2hrs 30 minutes. We may take longer depending upon your walking speed and how many stops we take.
On the way to Eagle Rock we will have a brief stop at a semi secret waterfall.
On our journey we will see many native plants including Wattles, Banksias, Grass Trees and Gymea Lillies.
We will see native birds including the Australian ravens, kookaburras and various types of honeyeaters. If lucky we may come across an echidna.
On the way to Eagle Rock we stop at a location that provides dramatic cliff views. Sometimes there are brave fishermen below!
Upon arrival at Eagle Rock we admire the crystal clear Curracurrong Creek as it reaches the cliff edge and drops directly into the ocean below.
The ocean bay below the waterfall is shallow and if sunny the ocean water takes on a translucent green color. When the surf is up you'll hear the pounding waves hit the cliff face below.
After enjoying our time at Eagle Rock (including photo taking by your guide - his camera or yours) we return to the Wattamolla for a refreshing lunch.
After lunch we drive through the Royal National Park and appreciate the beauty of the rainforest, which contains tall red cedar trees, many eucalypts, ferns, palms and climbing vines.
When we leave the park we are greeted by panoramic views to the south from Bald Hill lookout. On some days, depending upon the conditions, we will see
para gliders and hang gliders in action.
Our final stop for the day is one of the most scenic spots on the south coast of New South Wales, Sea Cliff Bridge.
We take a short walk at this point and cannot help but admire the dramatic cliff line that regularly dropped rocks onto the former road. For this reason it was necessary to build Sea Cliff Bridge so it was a safe distance away from rockfalls.
Sea Cliff Bridge is a spectacular cantilevered bridge that has great curves and provides outstanding views of the surrounding areas including several massive rock platforms.
After much fun it is time to call it a day and return back to Sydney for drop off at your accommodation.
