San Isidoro del Campo Monastery

San Isidoro is a medieval jewel and a place with great history. Here the first Bible was translated into Spanish and rests one of the most important noble families: the Guzmanes
The Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo is a medieval jewel that has inside places loaded with stories. In fact, the legend tells that under the monastery was a school founded by San Isidoro and, on this, a Mozarabic hermitage that housed the remains of the saint.
It was founded by Guzmán El Bueno in 1301 as a family pantheon and today it continues to serve the burial of its lineage, being the last grave of 2017. The monastery was given by Guzmán the good to the cistercians so that they would pray for their soul, And they were about a hundred years, until they were replaced by the Hermite Jeronyms of López de Olmedo. This order was in charge of pictorially decorating the monastery, since the Cistercians were such a austere order that they only had a crucified Christ as decoration. It was an important focus of Protestantism and several monks had to flee because they were persecuted by the Holy Inquisition, since they were reading and translating forbidden books, such as the Bear Bible. It was then that King Felipe II expelled this order and gave the monastery to the Jerónimos who were until his confiscation.
In the nineteenth century, among other things was dedicated to Malta factory and Women Inside, as the altarpiece of Martínez Montañés, considering his San Jerónimo the peak work of his production.
