Your adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation. As we drive towards the Queimadas area, we might pause at a quaint local spot for a brief refreshment break, though this stop is not guaranteed. Upon arrival at Queimadas Forest Park, our hike begins in a fairy-tale setting next to a charming thatched-roof house.
The trail, nestled in the lush Laurissilva Forest (a UNESCO World Heritage site), offers stunning views and is home to diverse plant species and birds like the Chaffinch, Firecrest, Grey Wagtail, Buzzard, and occasionally, the Long-toed Wood Pigeon. The vibrant green landscape along the levada is captivating.
Our journey includes walking along the levada, with the highlight being the breathtaking Caldeirão Verde waterfall, where we'll stop for a 30-minute break to soak in the scenery. This 13km walk, with an elevation gain of around 75 meters, is of moderate difficulty and typically takes around 4:30 hours to complete. As we traverse through this dense forest, keep an eye out for the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this pristine environment. Our knowledgeable guide will share insights about the local ecosystem and the history of the levadas, the traditional irrigation channels of Madeira.
The path includes four natural tunnels before reaching Caldeirão Verde, where a majestic waterfall cascades into an emerald lagoon, creating a stunning natural spectacle. After experiencing the awe-inspiring beauty of Caldeirão Verde, you'll return to Queimadas Forest Park. If time permits, we may stop at another local bar before returning you to your accommodation.

Pickup Locations: We only offer pickup services in the hotels mentioned in the itinerary.
Cancellation Policy: No refunds are provided for cancellations made within 24 hours of the activity's start time.
Age Restrictions: The hike is not ideal for very young children due to its length and difficulty.
Breakfast: Ensure you have a hearty breakfast before embarking on the activity to keep your energy levels high throughout the hike.
It might be possible to buy food and drinks before the hike, but this is not guaranteed. Please bring your own refreshments and do not count on purchasing them along the way.
Pickup is included for guests staying at the designated hotels.
We advise you to be ready and waiting in the hotel reception area 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time.
Our guides will wait approximately 5 minutes for each guest. Look out for our vans, which can be either white (smaller) or grey (larger).
We strive to ensure a smooth and timely start to your adventure, though external delays can occur. If that happens, you will be updated on the day.
One day before the activity, we may adjust the pickup time for your convenience.
