Travel through the beautiful landscapes of the Alentejo region. Walk through the fortified village of Marvão perched on top of the hill. Walk on the remains of the once thriving Roman city of Ammaia.
Your tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel. This private tour is provided mainly with the objective of showing Marvão, Castelo de Vide, and the Roman ruins of Ammaia, nevertheless, this itinerary can be changed to best suit your preferences. Upon meeting your driver, start heading northeast, directly to the upper Alentejo region. There, you will start the tour by visiting Castelo de Vide, a small, yet picturesque town where you can visit the main castle area. If time allows, shop for local handicrafts in the markets with other residents. Afterward, we will make our way to the medieval village of Marvão, which resides on the top of a steep hill belonging to the São Mamede mountain complex. Here, you will take a walk through the medieval streets, perhaps taste some of the local delicacies, visit the castle and the most important locations of the village.
After lunch, proceed down to visit the remains of the Roman city of Ammaia and its museum. This city was once a thriving Roman settlement as important as other towns in the region but has since Roman occupation declined and disappeared. After the visit to the museum and ruins, we will return to Lisbon and your accommodations by 6:30 PM to end the day.
