From Lisbon: Private 7-Hour Tour of Fátima

On this tour the driver/guide will unveil to you the secrets of Fátima, its Sanctuary and the untold history only known by the local people.

Take a private tour away from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon to Fátima, one of the most sacred places in all of Portugal. It is here where, more than 100 years ago, the Virgin Mary revealed herself to 3 shepherd children. A shrine, Our Lady of Fátima Basilica, was later constructed in the place where the apparitions are said to have appeared. Since 1953, it has been a destination for Catholic pilgrimages.

Departure from Lisbon in the morning on this full-day trip. Once in Fátima, stand in the Sanctuary Square outside and listen as your tour guide tells you the history of this religious town and its important landmarks. Spend the next two hours walking around, and pay a visit to the basilica of the Rosary or the neighboring Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity where at the front part of the altar you can see a relic...at the altar, there is a original piece of marble from the tomb of the Apostle Peter (over which the Basilica of the St. Peter was built, in the Vatican).

We will also visit the Museum of the Sanctuary* where you can see the crown with the bullet. It is considered by many to be the most important jewel made in Portugal and in 1982 it became even more precious after the bullet extracted from the body of John Paul II, victim of an attack in St. Peter's Square in Rome on the 13th of May 1981, was added.

Later, spend some time walking around the nearby Valinhos neighborhood, where the 3 shepherd children once lived.

On your 90-minute journey back to Lisbon, gaze out the window at the passing countryside on Highway A1, or take advantage of the free wi-fi on board to surf the Internet.
