Book a 2-hour tour to follow the German trail in the Old Town and visit St. Mary’s Church. A Local History Expert will take you on a journey through over 1,000 years of German-Polish relations, explaining how the free city of Gdansk became a part of the Teutonic Order for 146 years, to Prussia and the German Reich for 126. You will pass the Artus Court and Neptune’s Fountain, and take a moment to take in the sights and sounds of Motlawa River, which was one of the most important ports of the Hanseatic League. Throughout the tour, you will meet notable German personalities such as astronomer Johann Bernoulli, the Nobel Prize-winning author Günter Grass who set his famous Danzig Trilogy (including The Tin Drum) in Gdansk, and Barthel Ranisch who is credited for building the eye-catching Royal Chapel. The final attraction will be a visit inside the magnificent Church of St. Mary, where Martin Opitz, a brilliant German Baroque poet, was buried.
