Wawel Hill was the home of kings and queens for many centuries – and is one of the most important places for Polish people. It is a must-see for Polish and foreign tourists alike.
Start the tour at the tourist information center, where you will pick up your audio guide. Then, head to Kanonicza Street and walk to Wawel Hill via Herbowa Gate. On the way, your audio guide will take you through the history and importance of the buildings on the hill. Tour highlights at Wawel Hill include the Cathedral, the main courtyard, the arcaded courtyard and finally to the Dragon’s den.
Wawel was the monarch’s residency from the 11th century, and it was the sight where members of the royal family were both crowned and buried. Wawel Hill consists of the Royal Castle, Cathedral, Crown Treasury and Armory, the Dragon’s den and courtyards surrounding it.
