Discover the stunning Huayhuash Mountain on Hotsprings trip from Lima or Huaraz. Marvel at the snow-capped peaks, and enjoy round-trip transportation from a meeting point with hot springs at start and finish.
Hotsprings Trekking, thermal water at start and finishing the trekkking to relax, Discover the Huayhuash mountain range, a 30-kilometer long range with peaks that are more hilly and have more difficult access than those from the Cordillera Blanca. Admire the main range of some twenty peaks that stretch for approximately 15 kilometers, with a subsidiary range of smaller peaks stretching out to the west for approximately 15 kilometers.
See six of the peaks that exceed 6,000 meters. Included among them are Yerupaja 6617m, the second highest mountain in Peru behind Huascaran at 6768m, and Siula 6344m, made famous by the film Touching the Void.
The area is barely populated, with what hamlets there are being very small and generally only found below 4000 meters. The snowline is found at approximately 4,800 meters. The nearest villages are Chiquian 3400m and Cajatambo 3375m. Some mining takes place in the area, so to the north of the mountains there is an unsurfaced road leading up to as high as 4750 meters.
In 2002, the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture declared the Huayhuash mountain range a “reserved zone” and prohibited certain economic activities, including any future mining.
