Akureyri: Local taste, handcraft & micro brewery tour

On this fully guided tour you will meet local handcraft people, taste some local Icelandic foods and drink. The tour ends with a visit to the oldest microbrewery in Iceland.
This is a different kind of Minibus tour. We pick you up from Akureyri and drive along the fjord stopping at the beautiful fishing village of Hjalteyri. Arriving here is magnificent, almost like stepping back in time at least 40 – 60 years. The old renovated houses welcome you, some of them date back more then 100 years. You will see small fishing boats in the harbour, surrounded by the black sandy beach. An 80 year old herring meal factory made its mark on this small village.

We meet local handcraft people who use traditional methods to make all kinds of products out of animal skin, stone, wood or Icelandic sheep wool. You will get a tour of their studio or gallery. Learn about the traditional techniques used to clean and dry skins as well as how to make rugs, bowls, jewelry and more. Their studios are really like some cavern of wonders.
Next you will learn about Icelandic foods and drinks, and get to try a selection of these local specialities. The next stop on this tour is to the oldest microbrewery in Iceland. Kaldi brewery is a family owned brewery founded in 2006. Here you will learn about the process of making beer, see the dry ingredients and the bottling factory. Kaldi is one of the most popular beers in the country. There is plenty of time to try their many varieties of beers (or soft drinks). After visiting the brewery it is time to head back to your pick up place/acommodation in Akureyri.
