The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a royal retreat and in honor of Richard Wagner, the composer. After the death of Ludwig II, the palace was opened to the public in 1886, and now hosts more than 1.3 million visitors each year.

You’ll walk through a lovely gorge featuring cascades and waterfalls. On the way back you’ll stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Church of Wieskirch built in the 17th century.
