Discover a unique combination of Christian and Muslim influences at the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba on a private walking tour with entry tickets included.
Very few places in the world can be named as a Roman provincial capital, an Arab Al-Andalus and Caliphate capital. The splendid intellectual wealth of this city is well represented with famous Seneca, Averroes and Maimonides. The old town is a maze of small streets, alleys, squares and courtyards situated around the Mosque which was the centre of life in Islamic times.
The Mosque of Cordoba or Cordoba Cathedral is a building in Cordoba that was begun in the year 785/786. It is considered one of the most important monuments of the Islamic and Christian world. After the Reconquest, in 1238, the mosque was converted into a Renaissance cathedral, merging it with the Muslim temple. From its history, several construction phases can be observed, influenced by the reign of the different caliphs of the time. Abderramán I, Abderramán II, Abderramán III, Alhakén II and Almanzor. Declared a World Heritage Site, today it is one of the most important monuments in Spain and of all Andalusian architecture.
