The Tijuca Forest is one of the largest urban green areas in the world. It has 3,972 hectares and is located in Sector A of Tijuca National Park. Most of its vegetation is reforestation to replace the old coffee farms that once existed.
Discover the Tijuca Forest, an important recreational area for hiking and other mountain activities, and home to the Pico da Tijuca and the Bico do Papagaio mountains. Enjoy a tour of the most visited and beautiful attractions in the park with round-trip transportation from downtown Rio included.
First, choose to get picked up from your hotel in the tourist center of Rio de Janeiro by selecting the relevant option upon checkout. Alternatively, make your own way to the meeting point in the city center. Then, set off towards Tijuca Forest.
When you arrive, start the walk towards the entrance gate of the Tijuca Park Sector A. Go through several segments of the Atlantic Forest. Then, visit one of the main waterfalls in the park, Cascatinha Taunay, for a photo stop.
Next, follow a light trail to the visitor center and Tijuca National Park Museum. Once you've explored the museum, continue to the Cachoeira das Almas waterfall, where bathing is allowed. Find out about how the name means Waterfall of Souls, to do with the slave cultural traditions that once took place there.
After that, stop at the visitor's center before heading towards Capela Mayrink Chapel which has replicas of famous painters such as Portinari. Make your last stop at the largest dam of the Tijuca Forest, the Açude da Solidão. Finally, return to downtown Rio de Janeiro where your tour concludes.
