Bhutan: 6-Day Tour with Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha

Day 1: Paro Airport – Thimphu Sightseeing
Meet your guide at Paro Airport and transfer to Thimphu. Check in at the hotel and visit Kuensel Phodrang, a place for refreshing with a huge statue of Buddha on the top of the Kuensel Phodrang.

Visit the National Memorial Chorten, a center of worship for the people living in Thimphu. Later in the day, visit Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body.

Day 2: Thimphu – Punakha/Wangdue Sightseeing
After breakfast, drive to Punakha. Stop at Dochu-La-Pass to view the higher Himalayas. Visit Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Take a short and easy hike to visit the Chhimi Lhakhang, also known as “The Temple of Fertility” and built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, “The Devine Mad Man.”

Day 3: Excursion to Gangtey (Phobjikha) OR Punakha Sightseeing
After breakfast, start for a full-day excursion trip to Gangtey, the home of the Black Necked Crane which migrates from the arid plains of Tibet in the north. Visit Gangtey Gompha.

Alternatively, spend the day in Punakha Valley itself. After breakfast, hike Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten which is about 45 minutes easy hike to the top of the hill.

Day 4: Punakha/Wangdue – Paro Sightseeing
After breakfast, drive to Paro. Stop at Lamperi to visit Royal Botanical Park. Visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum with an excellent collection of arts, relics, and religious thangkha.

Visit Rinpung Dzong, the administrative and judicial seat of Paro.

Day 5: Paro Sightseeing
After breakfast, hike to the famous Taktsang Monastery, called “Tiger’s Nest.” Later visit Drukgyel Dzong and Kyichu Monastery.

Day 6: Paro Airport
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drop at Paro Airport for your onward journey.
