This Qabab Tour offers a trip to natural beauty and treat. From the ruins of the Garni Temple to the spiritually charged Geghard Monastery, and the geological wonders of the Symphony of Stones.
Located in the eastern part of Armenia, near the town of Garni, the Garni Temple stands as the only surviving pre-Christian pagan temple in the country. It is dedicated to Mihr, the sun god, and was built during the 1st century AD by King Trdat I. The temple’s Greco-Roman architectural style is a testament to Armenia's historical connections with the Hellenistic world.
The name "Geghard" translates to "spear" in Armenian, referring to the legendary spear that pierced Christ’s side during the crucifixion, which was said to have been kept here for a time.
The most famous structure is the Ayrivank (the cave monastery), which is a series of interconnected chambers, including a church and a crypt. Just a short distance from Geghard Monastery. The Symphony of Stones is an incredible natural formation of basalt columns that resemble an organ's pipes. These geological formations are located in the Garni Gorge and are a natural wonder.
The columns, created by volcanic activity, are shaped into symmetrical patterns that evoke a sense of awe. The scene is especially striking during the golden hour when the sun casts long shadows and the stones glow in the fading light. The Charents Arch, located just outside the village of Yeraskhavan, offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in Armenia.
From the arch, catch a glimpse of Mount Ararat, the sacred mountain that has significant cultural and religious meaning for Armenians, as well as for the people of the surrounding region. Named after the famous Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents, the arch is a favorite spot for photographers and travelers alike.
Charents, who was deeply connected to the Armenian national revival, is said to have frequented the site, inspired by the view of Ararat.
No Armenian heritage tour would be complete without indulging in Qabab — a quintessential Armenian dish that encapsulates the rich flavors of the country's culinary traditions. Qabab refers to skewered, grilled meat, typically lamb or chicken, which is marinated in a mixture of aromatic spices, herbs, and oils before being cooked over an open flame.
It is often served with fresh vegetables, lavash (Armenian flatbread), and a variety of accompaniments such as yogurt-based sauces, grilled tomatoes, and onions. The dish is particularly popular during outdoor gatherings and festive occasions, and the aroma of grilling meat can often be found in many towns and villages across Armenia.
During your tour, local food vendors or restaurants might offer the opportunity to try freshly grilled kebabs paired with lavash, a traditional Armenian flatbread that is baked in a tandoor (clay oven), creating a perfect accompaniment to the succulent, smoky meat. In addition to Qabab, visitors to Armenia may also enjoy other traditional dishes, such as khorovats (barbecued meat), dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and khachapuri (cheese-filled bread), all of which represent the deep culinary roots of the Armenian people.
