Just outside Kaudulla National Park you can see wild elephants in one of sixteen irrigation pools built by King Mahasen.

Nuwara Eliya is known for its walks in Tissa, the gateway to Yala National Park, the Elephant and Leopard Gallery and the beautiful old Dutch fortress city. The fortress of the Sigiriya, ruled by the King of Kassapa since the fifth century, is one of the busiest tourist resorts on the island, and it is impressive in several respects, starting with the gnarled infrastructure that was built to attract tourists to the Lion's Rock (fear of heights is misplaced here).
Yala National Park is one of the few places in the world where leopards are seen. When you visit Kaudulla National Park, you can also see hundreds of elephants. One of Sri Lanka's most popular tourist attractions is the Kataragama Festival, which happens every year between July and August, which is dedicated to a Hindu god.
