Once past artifacts inside Fort Fortaleza in Maputo, from here, it is a steep hike down the Samora Machel Boulevard, so you might like to take some time at the Tunduru Botanical Gardens. The Tunduru gardens, Maputo Fortress, Independence Square, and Catembe Ferry Port are a 10-15-minute walk away from your room.

The fortress is still worth visiting, even if you do not get all the historical context, thanks to its gorgeous views of Maputo. This large fortress at the centre of Maputo was built by Portuguese colonialists, dating from 1787. Built by the Portuguese as a defensive structure, Maputo Fort is now a military history museum and is one of Maputo’s most popular tourist attractions.

The historical railway station was built in the early 20th century and is one of Maputo’s major attractions. When you are in Maputo, a beautiful capital city, do not miss visiting the train station from the early 20th century, which has bright green facade, an impressive dome at its roof, and tall arches. Rated as one of the best-looking railway stations in the world by several international publications, the Maputo railway station is one of Maputo’s most magnificent buildings. Built between 1908 and 1916 as the replacement for the former Maputo railway station, the Maputo Central railway station is an excellent example of Beaux-Arts architecture.

Other places to visit in Maputo include Maputo Central Market and an eccentric iron house designed by Gustave Eiffel.
