It has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since this Roman imperial palace originated in Split in the seventh century AD. It is the only city in the world that was born from a Roman imperial palace and therefore attracts visitors from all over the world. The Temple of Jupiter is a fine example of Roman architecture and well worth a visit if you are exploring downtown Split. There is a lot of beautiful Renaissance architecture here, the remains of Split date back to the Venetian era. Split is located right in the middle of the Croatian coast and therefore is an excellent base for exploring the Croatian coast. Split is blessed to be a coastal city, so one of the best things to do in Split is stay close to the waters of the Adriatic Sea. Walking along the Riva, the city's waterfront, is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Split and walking along the Riva is absolutely beautiful.
