Split is a city steeped in history.

When you visit Split, you should know that the heart of the Old Town is Diocletian's Palace, but Split is much more than just a holiday home for emperors. Split is an old city, and it includes much more than just Diocletian's palace - it also includes a labyrinth of adjacent streets and squares that were built outside the walls of the palace. The streets lined with shops, restaurants and even a hotel in a palace are the heart of the city, the place where everything really started for the city of Split. The ancient Roman palace is where you will spend most of your time in Split and where most of the sights, restaurants, bars, shops, and people are located. The centrepiece of the vast Roman palace dates to 350, making Saint Douai the oldest cathedral building in the world. For centuries, this architecture has been kept intact before being incorporated into later buildings such as the Cathedral of Saint Dues, whose heart is a fourth-century mausoleum. The best example is the vast Roman palace. One of the beautiful things about the architecture of Split is how old buildings have been adapted. The ancient Roman palace is a huge historical site, as well as the centre of daily life in Split. It has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since this Roman imperial palace originated in Split in the seventh century AD. It is the only city in the world that was born from a Roman imperial palace and therefore attracts visitors from all over the world. The Temple of Jupiter is a fine example of Roman architecture and well worth a visit if you are exploring downtown Split. There is a lot of beautiful Renaissance architecture here, the remains of Split date back to the Venetian era. Split is located right in the middle of the Croatian coast and therefore is an excellent base for exploring the Croatian coast. Split is blessed to be a coastal city, so one of the best things to do in Split is stay close to the waters of the Adriatic Sea. Walking along the Riva, the city's waterfront, is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Split and walking along the Riva is absolutely beautiful.
