Oman
One thing that makes it easier to travel to Oman and visit all the many natural, cultural, and historical attractions is that it is best to do so near Muscat, the capital of Oman. Renting a car in Oman is the best way to see the capital, and there are plenty of wonderful places within a couple of hours drive that you will not want to miss. While there is plenty to see and experience outside of Muscat, Muscat itself has a lot to offer, giving visitors a good overview of Oman's culture and lifestyle, as well as a sample of the vast Sultanate of Oman, plenty to enjoy.
The only mosque in Oman that tourists can access is the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, it is one of the landmarks of the country's capital, Muscat, the capital city of Muscat. The Grand Mosque, located in the heart of Muscat, is one of my top recommendations when visiting Oman. Toa Wadi Dike Dam is one of the most beautiful religious buildings we have ever visited and one of the must-see places in Oman.
Many mosques do not allow non-Muslim visitors to enter the prayer area, and this is one reason the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque should be at the top of your list of must-see places in Oman. The Grand Mosque is open to visitors daily (but closes at 11am), giving you the opportunity to gain experience more about the Islamic religion (since it is one of the few mosques in Oman open to non-Muslim visitors).
While Mutra Fort is not intended for tourists to visit, the beauty and scenery of the fort make it one of the best places to visit in Oman. Bahra Fort is the only fort in Oman to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it is one of the least visited tourist destinations in Oman. What is Nizwa Fort One of the most popular places in Oman, Nizwa Fort is a combination of a castle, a fort, and a museum. Nizwa is Oman's ancient capital and Oman's busiest cultural centre, and the Friday Bull Market outside the walls of Nizwa Fort is a local institution.
Mutrah Market is within walking distance of Mutrah Fort, so after spending a day admiring the view of Mutrah Fort, it is worth visiting and picking up some local souvenirs. Mutrah Market is remarkably busy, hot, and amazing, so if you want to visit Mutrah Market, make sure you go there when there is no jet lag for the best experience. Mutrah Market is one of the best places to visit in Oman because you can shop where the locals go. Nearby, you can shop in the narrow streets of Mutrah Market, one of the oldest markets in Oman and one of the main tourist attractions in the capital, Muscat. Without a doubt, my favorite place to take tourists on a tour of the sprawling Sultanate of Oman is the Mutrah Market, a bustling little shop selling everything from Omani silverware, incense, traditional jewellery and khanjars (local daggers), cashmere, fabrics, trinkets, antique furniture, and beautifully carved doors.
