The oldest district of Tbilisi offers various sights to explore such as Narikala Fortress, Metekhi Bridge, Mother of Georgia, Botanical Garden, old residential buildings and more. As you stand on top of the Narikala Fortress or Mother Georgia, you will be looking down at the Tbilisi Botanical Garden (opposite the old city). streets. Mother Georgia is an excellent choice, otherwise Mtatsminda Park is also a viable choice: it is located near the Tbilisi TV Tower, the highest point in the Georgian capital, and is clearly visible from the old town. The traditional sulfur baths of Tbilisi are located in the Abanotubani district of the Old City and are not hard to find with their brick domes and fetid clouds of sulfuric steam. The sulfur baths, located at the beginning of the Old City of Tbilisi, or Abanotubani, are a historical place in Tbilisi that is open all year round and especially relaxing in winter. Hidden in the labyrinths of the streets of the old city of Tbilisi are monuments, churches, mosques, museums, cafes, 19th-century houses, and buildings with holes in their facades that can tell their story. A lot of attention is being paid to the historic centre, but there are also some new ultra-modern architectural developments that bring interesting dynamics and contrast to the urban landscape. Not only will you find centuries-old churches, a fortress, or beautiful corners in the old city, but Tbilisi also has impressive Art Nouveau or Brutalist buildings, great food and coffee, and some fantastic and original places. Along the way, do not miss the chance to see Georgian architecture as some of the most beautiful buildings in the city are located here. There are several Orthodox churches in the capital of Georgia that are worth visiting: two of them that I liked the most are the Bethlehem Church in the Old City with a yard full of cats and great views of the city, and the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, which can be seen from all over the world. Although the Metekhi Church itself is interesting, the main reason to visit this place is the beautiful view of old Tbilisi, Narikala Fortress, and surroundings - one of the best views you can find in Tbilisi. The most impressive church you can visit is the sixth-century Tbilisi Sioni Cathedral (until 2004 it was the main residence of the Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia), but other churches worth seeing in the Old City are the Jvaris Mama Church. Church of Lower Bethlehem and Church of St. George Armenian Cathedral. The Old Town is the perfect picture of the capital of Georgia, a labyrinth of narrow streets with colourful houses, stray cats and courtyards with half-timbered vineyards and a cascade of grapes - yes, you heard right, grapes grow right in the centre of the city, revealing Georgia's thousand-year-old love for wine. Winemaking traditions have been preserved in several regions of Georgia - and there are several shops in the Old Town where visitors can taste the product.
