The Lemosho Route is renowned for its stunning scenery, varied landscapes, and excellent acclimatization opportunities. It's scenic and less crowded routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp
Elevation: 2,100 m (6,890 ft) to 2,650 m (8,690 ft)
Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After a drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration, you will be transported to the trailhead. The trek begins through the dense rainforest, offering chances to see Colobus monkeys and other wildlife. The day ends at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Elevation: 2,650 m (8,690 ft) to 3,610 m (11,910 ft)
Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Moorland
The trail gradually steepens as you leave the rainforest and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trek crosses several streams before reaching the Shira Ridge, then descending gently to Shira 1 Camp on the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Elevation: 3,610 m (11,910 ft) to 3,850 m (12,630 ft)
Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Moorland
This is a relatively short day meant for acclimatization. The trail crosses the Shira Plateau, providing stunning views of the Western Breach and the Kibo Massif. You will arrive at Shira 2 Camp in the afternoon, giving you plenty of time to rest and acclimatize.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Elevation: 3,850 m (12,630 ft) to 3,900 m (12,800 ft)
Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert
From Shira 2 Camp, you continue east towards the Lava Tower, a significant acclimatization point at 4,600 m (15,190 ft). After a lunch stop near the Lava Tower, you descend to Barranco Camp, allowing your body to acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,900 m (12,800 ft) to 4,035 m (13,230 ft)
Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
The day begins with a challenging but rewarding climb up the Barranco Wall. After the wall, the trail winds up and down through the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp. This shorter day is designed to aid acclimatization.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 4,035 m (13,230 ft) to 4,640 m (15,220 ft)
Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
You leave Karanga Camp and hit the junction that connects with the Mweka Trail. Continue up to Barafu Camp. This is a short but steep climb, and you'll arrive in the early afternoon to rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 4,640 m (15,220 ft) to 5,895 m (19,341 ft) and down to 3,080 m (10,105 ft)
Distance: 17 km (10.5 miles)
Hiking Time: 12-15 hours
Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest
You start the summit push around midnight, ascending through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. From Stella Point, it's a gradual climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp.
