Sri Lanka cultural triangle full circle 2-day tour

Day 1: Colombo-Aukana-Mihintale-Anuradhapura Take a fascinating 2-night cultural trip to the Sri Lankan Cultural Triangle and witness Sri Lanka's holiest sites.

Picked up in Colombo, drive to your accommodation in Anuradhapura. En route, stop at Mihintale, Aukana Temple, and Anuradhapura, the oldest city in Sri Lanka.

The 2-night tour begins with a hop-on, hop-off city tour of the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Among the many historical sites seen on the tour are Buddhist temples, dagobas, palaces, gardens, and other amazing buildings in the city that bear witness to the majesty of old civilization. Along with the most important eight Buddhist landmarks in the city, referred to as "Atamasthana," the tour also visits Jetavanarama, Mirisaveti Stupa, Lankarama, Thuparamaya, Lovamahapaya, Abhayagiri Dagaba, and Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya.
Later on in the day, go to your hotel in Anuradhapura for a restful night.

Day 2: Anuradhapura-Polonnaruwa-Sigiriya 
Head for the Sigiriya rock fortress, which has one of the world's oldest landscaped gardens. Starting early in the morning, your Sigiriya trip lets you avoid the midday heat. Climb the rock with our guide, who explains about this fascinating archeological marvel along the way. Reach the summit to view the location of the king's palace, swimming pool, and throne. From the summit, tourists can enjoy the breathtaking view over the surrounding Minneroya National Park, rural villages, farmlands, and Pidurangala temple. 

Later, drive to Polonnaruwa to see the numerous old temples, Buddha statues, and other structures built by the Kings in the past. See the Polonnaruwa cultural museum for enormous stone-cut Buddha statues, dagobas, an audience hall, and much more.

Later in the day, go on an off-road jeep safari in the national park to witness the world-popular elephant gathering, known as the Great Gathering. A wildlife safari at Minneriya National Park will heighten your experience. See deer, buffalo, monkeys, wild boars, elephants, and perhaps even a leopard.
Overnight in Sigiriya.

Day 3: Sigiriya-Kandy-Colombo
Head early for Colombo via Kandy, stopping at an herb and spice garden along the way. In Matale, Sri Lankan cuisine and medicine employ herbs and spices. As your guide leads you around the site, learn about the past.

Later, visit the Tooth Relic Temple and Dambulla Golden Temple; they will undoubtedly enhance your experience with even more sacrosanctity. Dambulla is home to around 150 Buddha sculptures and numerous old murals. Kandy City will be the next location.

Because of the temple housing the Buddha's precious tooth, Kandy is today one of the most significant cities in Sri Lanka. The busiest Buddhist shrine on the island, this temple receives thousands of visitors each day. Return to your hotel in Colombo.
