From Puno: Excursion to Lampa

On this excursion to Lampa from Puno we will visit the Jesuit temple of Santiago Apóstol and its catacombs decorated with skulls and bones.
We will pick you up at 8:00 a.m. at the agreed place in Puno to head north and make a two-hour trip to Lampa.

As soon as we arrive, we will visit the Jesuit temple of Santiago Apóstol, one of the symbols of the town. Inside we will find Christian relics, such as a sculpture of the Virgin of Chiquinquirá, a crucified Christ made of leather, the silver image of the Immaculate Conception and the Pieta, a replica of the famous sculpture by Michelangelo that today decorates the basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican.

Next, we will enter the church atrium, a rectangular space delimited by eight towers, and access the ancient catacombs. We will visit this impressive mausoleum and its funeral chamber or ossuary, where you will be surprised by the skulls and bones that cover the walls arranged to the millimeter.

After visiting the temple, we will go out to walk the streets of Lampa and marvel at its colonial buildings, such as the Casona Frisancho. We will pass by the Municipality of Lampa, a beautiful building built of pink ashlar stone, and we will cross the Cal y Canto bridge, one of the most beautiful in the region until its recent collapse. Its construction was quite a challenge!

We will head back to Puno and make a stop at a local market where you will have free time to go shopping. The best time to acquire a nice souvenir of your trip.

Finally, we will arrive in Puno and we will leave you at 3:00 p.m.
