From Iquitos | City Tour - Belén Market

On this excursion we will explore the old town of this Peruvian city and also visit a manatee rehabilitation center and the Quistococha Zoo.

Itinerary At 9:00 am, we will meet on the central Antonio Raimondi Avenue to begin this comprehensive tour of Iquitos. During the tour, we will discover the main attractions of this city located on the banks of the Amazon River and delve into its history. We will walk through the historic center of Iquitos, contemplating enormous mansions decorated with tiles that were once brought from Europe as part of the rubber rush that brought so much wealth to this city at the end of the 19th century. Walking down the street, we will come across the facade of the Iron House, which was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the architect of the famous Parisian tower. And then we will arrive at the Museum of Amazonian Indigenous Cultures, where we will see pieces of crafts, textiles and other objects belonging to different ethnic groups in the area. The next stop on the Iquitos tour will be at the Belén market, where we can mingle with local life observing the continuous coming and going of the inhabitants of this city. Fruit, fish, meat products... You'll find it all here! We'll go to a restaurant and leave you an hour free to eat. With your appetite satisfied, we'll board a minibus and head to the outskirts of the city to visit a manatee rescue center. Here we'll learn about the work volunteers do to save these aquatic mammals from extinction. The last stop on the tour will be at the Quistococha Zoo. This park is home to a multitude of Amazonian species such as jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, alligators, snakes and macaws, so you'll be able to see them up close! We'll finish the tour at 5:00 p.m. at the starting point.
