ITINERARY:

From Huaraz we drive through the Callejón de Huaylas until we reach the town of Carhuaz where we will turn off to the east side towards Punta Olimpica. After 2.5 hours of transfer we will arrive at the Punta Olimpica Tunnel, with its 4736 meters above sea level it is catalogued as the highest trans-Andean tunnel in the world. Here our tour guide will give us the guidelines for the mountain day and we will start our ascent to Nevado Mateo. We will put on our mountain equipment: helmet, harness and boots. The ice axe and crampons will be in the backpack until we reach the glacier and make use of them.

The approach to the glacier is by a well marked zigzag path, we will also have to overcome some rocky sections, the tour guide will be constantly giving instructions on how to properly use the mountain equipment. Finally the tour guide will perform the roping system to ensure our safety during the ascent and descent of the mountain.

During the ascent to Nevado Mateo you can enjoy the sunrise, the mountains surrounding the landscape, such as: Huascaran South and North, Chopicalqui, Ulta, Contrahierbas, a large part of the Ulta ravine with some lagoons in the sector: Laguna Pacllash and Laguna Chacllacocha.

Undoubtedly a road to the summit with excellent visual domain. From the summit you will be able to contemplate all the landscape and other lagoons that stand out: Cancaragá and Yanaraju. Finally, the descent is by the same route. Transportation will be waiting to take us back to the city of Huaraz.
