We start the tour when our guide arrives for you at the lobby of your hotel, we will go to the west of Yucatan to see one of the most important ecological reserves due to the arrival of the pink flamingo.
We travel 90 km to reach Celestún, this Reserve is located at the mouth of the most important underground water basin in Yucatán, which coincides with the ring of Cenotes and the Ría Lagartos. At the same time, it is located within the coastal corridor of wetlands with the best conservation in the western part of the Yucatecan peninsula. It is one of the reserves with the greatest richness of interdependent species and ecosystems, namely; mangroves, dunes, petenes, low jungle and grasslands. Under the premise of protecting the evolutionary processes of the natural heritage, special care has been taken in the conservation of this habitat.
One of the main attractions of the reserve is bird watching, since Ría Celestún is one of the main resting, feeding and reproduction sites for a wide variety of migratory species, especially the pink flamingo. We will embark for a tour in the estuary where we will find a diverse fauna such as: cormorants, gray herons, tiger herons.
We will also visit a mangrove tunnel and a freshwater reservoir called “el ojo de agua”. We will return to the pier, to later move to the beach to enjoy lunch (fish fillet to taste), and free time, and then return to Mérida.
