In the community of Santa Catarina Minas, there is an ancestral mezcal palenque where you can learn about the process of making mezcal and taste more than 10 varieties.
We will pick you up at the indicated time at your hotel in Oaxaca and travel for 50 minutes by road to Santa Catarina Minas. Once there, we will start a mezcal tour.
This town is famous for its mezcal tradition and, to better understand how it came to be, we will meet one of the ancestral mezcal producers. We will learn how the manual milling, the fermentation in piles and the distillation in clay pots were done.
Afterwards, we will visit an artisanal mezcal factory where we will see the agave crops and organic production processes. In addition, the farm is home to cows and goats that provide the fertilizer for the plantations.
We will culminate the visit with a mezcal tasting, where we will taste a total of 10 different varieties. Chin-chin! On the way back we will stop at a restaurant in the Ocotlán valley in case you want to try some typical dishes.
We will then drive you back to your hotel in Oaxaca, where you are scheduled to arrive 7 hours after pick-up.
