Your tour begins at the imposing main portal, where you can already admire the intricate details of the late Gothic architecture. Enter the interior of the church and be enchanted by the clear structure and the light-flooded room.

Highlights of the tour:
1. the Luther epitaph:
The first highlight awaiting you is the famous Luther epitaph, an ornate memorial plaque commemorating the great reformer who once preached here.

2. the mysterious crypt:
The guided tour then takes you down into the mysterious crypt. This underground treasure chamber still holds mysteries.

3. the archangel Michael:
A highlight of the tour is the sculpture of the Archangel Michael, about one meter high, which gave the church its name.

Meeting point:
The guided tour starts at the main entrance of St. Michael's City Church, directly at Kirchplatz 1, 07743 Jena. Please be there 10 minutes before the start of the tour so that we can start on time. The entrance is easy to find - look out for the imposing Gothic portal.

Drop-off location:
The tour also ends at St. Michael's Town Church, so you will have time to explore the church square or the surrounding sights after the guided tour.

Duration:
The entire guided tour lasts approximately 1 hour. During this time, we will visit all the highlights of the church and have enough time for questions.

What you should bring:
- Comfortable shoes
- A jacket, as it can be very chilly in the church.


Church opening hours:
The town church is open on Mondays and Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00. It is also possible to book a private guided tour outside these times. Please note that the church may be reserved for services or events at certain times.

Accessibility:
The main entrance is not barrier-free, however the rear entrance and the interior of the church are accessible. However, the crypt is only accessible via a staircase.

Weather:
The guided tour takes place indoors, so it is conducted regardless of the weather. However, if the weather is fine, we can optionally take a short walk around the church to admire the exterior architecture.
